♡ACCORDING TO THESE SITES the Vietnamese- "Vietnam's dog-eating custom is rooted in the north of the country and developed as a result of poverty. In the north, dogs were the cheapest source of protein. People didn't have anything to feed them with so they let them scavenge and then picked them up off the streets...." ♡

*I live in Japan and I've never heard of anyone eating dog, lots of cute dogs as pets though!

Many folks from rural parts of Korea, China, Laos and Vietnam eat dog. They DO NOT eat it in Thailand. I know because I lived there for many years.

The funny thing we saw in rural Vietnam was all day long we would see dogs wander freely. Sometime around 4 or 5 PM the dogs would all be gathered and caged. We asked a collegue what that was all about. He said they gather them near dinner time for people to come choose and buy the one they wanted for supper. If they were not purchased by evening, they were set free for another day. Our friend said people wouldn't just take a dog off the street and eat it because they knew it belonged to someone. I guess we wouldn't just swipe someone's cow and eat it without paying for it first.

Mainly the Far East, Korea, Vietnam, some parts of China and the Philippines (These countries run Puppy farms for dog meat) they believe that the more frightened the dog is before it is slaughtered makes it taste better, I personally think it is sick and also the person that says been there done that is sick (One of the people that answered your question)

That country is called Korea where I live right now . They do it in China as well. In Korea you have to go the special restruants for that , those resturants just serve dogs and nothing else . you choose your dog ( dead ) and they chop it up to small pieces and they put it in a big pot and spice it up and bring it to your table and you put it on a small stove which is installed on ur table and let it boil and you eat it as you talk to your friends . Dog is a very fancy and expensive meal and it is usually food for men ( for obvious reasons ) . So many koreans invite their western male friends for this meal , and I know people who actually tried it . Every korean tried this meal at least once in their life and they say it is really tasty . well I have never tried it and I will never do . They eat so many strage stuff in Asia , the other food they have in Korea is silk warms , they boil it and eat it . It is a very cheap food and they sale it everywhere in this little venders . It smells disgusting but Korean call it " DELICIOUS "

Some older people in Korea still eat dog, younger people are less likely to have ever tried it, because nowadays 'pet' dogs are popular. In rural areas it's more common, but you must remember that they are farmed dogs - it's no different than your leg of lamb, beef steak, chicken drumsticks, or pork chops!
In China, particularly in rural areas, it happens occasionally.

But it does NOT happen (as a cultural tradition) in Japan or England!!!
It could possibly happen in YOUR neighbourhood though... you never know WHO your neighbours are!! Watch out! They could all be cannibals!!!!

Stop being so egotistical by assuming that murdering cows, pigs, sheep and chickens is more morally sound than murdering dogs! It's all FOOD! Even though I don't want to eat dog I still have to accept that there's no enormous difference between the value of a sheep's life, and the value of a dog's life!

Several years ago in a Hong Kong abbatoir... a cow refused to be led inside for slaughtering. Workers had a tug of war with the stubborn cow. After a while, the cow knelt on its 2 front legs, tears streaming down her eyes... the workers were taken by surprise and could not bear the sight of the cow weeping... they decided not to slaughter the cow.

This is not a made-up story.

Korea is the country most famous for eating dogs and which Brigitte Bardot is always protesting against. However, I wouldn't say it is that common. I would compare it to the French eating horse.

They do in rural China. They eat wild cats too. Wonder why diseases go rampant? Also, I think Vietnamese who are from more rural areas of Vietnam do too. Catwoman, you need to study up a bit. Japanese do not eat dog. I know. I live here.
Japanese loves dogs as pets.
