I once had the most delicious dip served with poppadums when i went to an indian restaurant, and it was edlicious. I am trying to find out exactly what its called.

It was like a red/orangy colour and was kind of like small lumps (ground coconut consistency), and it was quite sweet and truely delicious.

Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks.

I'm sure its not chutney. There was a silver stand with 5 pots on, one was mango chutney, one was lime pickle, one was raita, one was onion, cuecumber and tomato, and the other dish was this delicious mystery product i would like to find out about.

see red dipps might be-1.ground chillies+salt+tamarind+carrots
+salt
2. red chilli powder+tamarind+salt+garlic+
yoghurt

it's hard to say unless we have seen....but coz poppadums r Asian Indian snack eaten usually after a meal to make u full, help digest food and make ur mouth a particular taste....so it's not a typical concept to have it with any dips. The modified form of eating poppadums(usually known as paapad) is with dips- and trust me we got a lot of such dips/chutneys/powders in every part of the country.......so even if u want to make it---- make it here is the recipe-

ground peanuts+red chilly powder+salt+coconut milk+coconut powder+tamarind( to give a tangy flavour) + water if reqd+sugar

The other way is soak tamarind for some time in warm water->sqeeze water with pulp with a seive->add a little jaggery for sweetness->add roasted and grounded cummin seed powder, red chilly powder, black salt or normal cooking salt,a little grated carrots, cook it for a while like till one or 2 boils....it's done. This is the best u will ike it am sure

The dip you are talking about is called Thatilia.

It comes from Southern India.

It is made from red chillies, yoghurt and poo-poo!

Sorry - I was making it up - I am ashamed of myself and will go and lock myself in a dark room!
