Right now there is no test for men. However, there are ways to detect the most common problem caused by HPV in men, genital warts. Genital warts are usually diagnosed by visual inspection. Some health care providers may use a vinegar solution to help identify flat warts, although this test is not specific for warts. That means the test may falsely identify normal skin as a wart.

Typically to determine if one is infected with HPV a physical examination is warranted. Unlike HIV, blood tests will not show the infection of HPV as HPV is a virus that only affects certain tissues. HIV affects antibodies and can be found throughout the circulatory system.
HPV test for women are done during a pap smeer in which a patient will be examined for genital warts and will have a biopsy (removal of tissue for testing purposes) of the cervical tissue for testing in a lab.
For men, HPV testing is much more difficult and a bit more inconclusive. Male HPV testing is done by physical examination in which a chemical is used to make the genital warts of HPV more visible. This part of the procedure can be a bit painful as a slight stinging can be felt by the patient. The patient will have penis, scortum, and anus inspected but can show no warts. Just because warts are not present does not indicate whether or not the patient has or doesnt have HPV. If you suspect infection, be sure to self examine your genital area frequently and be rechecked by a physician.
In either male or female testing, results come back as either normal or abnormal; abnormal indicationg HPV infection.
HPV is incurrable at the present time. Research is inconclusive on whether or not condoms can successfully prevent infection of your sexual partner. Remember, HPV CAN BE SPREAD even if no warts are present.

Whatever the test is, please get one. It's not worth the risk of passing it. Especially since it's an STD easy to spread even without condoms.
