Your friend can lose weight on a variety of different diets. I recommend a well balanced diet with slightly more protein and vegetables than carbs, combined with moderate exercise. If she's somewhat lazy then walking for about an hour a day really does wonders.
It does not matter if the diet is vegeterian or not, but she may find the vegetarian one more demanding because it's tricky to get enough protein without overdoing the carbs.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.
The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.
Get started today!

No, not necessarily. In fact, I know a lot of people (including ME!) who have actually gained weight on a vegetarian diet, because unless you are very careful you may not be getting enough protein, and because when good nutritious veggie food is hard to find you tend to fill up on carbs.

it depends on what made her gain the weight. many vegetarians are thin because they are much more careful to keep a balanced diet and generally lead a healthier lifestyle.
this is certainly not true of all vegetarians many are not so health conscious. i for one make sure i get my fruits and veggies but i'm a huge sugarholic so not that healthy. not overweight either though.

It can. If you eat a wide variety of fruits and veggies and a moderate amount of bread and dressing-type things (oily stuff, usually). And if you leave off sugar and sweets, you WILL lose weight. Trouble is, most people don't realize how much sugar they are eating/drinking.
Good luck to your friend. If she's overweight, good for her for trying to get in good shape.

Yes it will but go easy on the bread and pasta if you eat it. Along with exercise it will help you loose weight and you will feel better.

I stopped eating meat about a year ago, and I've dropped 20 lbs. I don't blame it solely on the meat, as I started eating better. I guess she won't know if it works for her until she tries it.

It depends on the diet. If one eats mostly vegetables, then yes. But if they rely on cheese and butter and refined grains, then no.
