I had a heart monitor done because I was having heart palpitations. It came back fine. Does the heart monitor rule out major heart problems?

I think I might have had an echocardiogram done too.

If what you were wearing was a holter monitor, No!
In the 24 hours that you wear this, something must appear in the reading as abnormal. If nothing showed up as abnormal, and you're still concerned, you should let your Cardiologist know that you are still uncomfortabe with the results.Obviously, no one could tell you that your palpitations are benign, in that there could be a few things going on. But, palpitations are very common in all of us. You can't relate these with 'major heart problems', as you ask. Major heart problems are in a different class. In the 24 hours that you wore this monitor, an event had to take place in this time. What are the chances of this, again, no one really knows. You can't expect even an educated guess here. What you're experiencing cannot go any further in a forum like this. The question is obtuse and requires your presense, your medical history, and your current symptoms.

Essentially, you need to speak to your doc. Further, please don't ASK or ANSWER medical questions online. You will find, as you already have, that you'll get answers from laymen who think they know what they're talking about and being a layman yourself, you may mistakably take their advise. In this, you could be asking for big problems. I would be happy to answer questions you may have in giving you medical direction. Feel free to contact me.

P.S. If you(audience) are not educated in this field, DO NOT answer medical questions in this forum. If you do, you are far from realizing that you may be putting people in danger. This is not the place for opinion, or personal experience regardless of your SINCERE intentions.

It sounds like you still need more testing done;the Holter monitor sometimes requires more than 24 hours of wear to detect an event. If you had an echocardiogram, your heart has been measured for size, function, thickness of muscle. For a really good work up,the echo could be combined with the stress test and then with the Doppler technique to get a really good picture of what's going on with your heart. If you are feeling uneasy about the results that you have,by all means, be safe and ask for more testing or go to another doctor for a second opinion! Also,it's a very good idea to take someone with you to these appointments;a second pair of ears is very useful.I have acted and still am acting as medical advocate to family members with heart disease;I ask the doctors a lot of questions and I do a lot of research in medical libraries open to the public so I know what questions to ask for my relatives' sake. I'm giving you two sources that have really helped my family.

An EKG is only going to record what's going on with the heart at that moment. If you don't have any palpitations during the test they won't be picked up. An echocardiogram would give your doctor a much clearer picture of how well your heart is working. However, if they need to check for blocked arteries they are going to have to do a catheterization.

youd need an echocardiogram to completely rule out a defect, but the heart monitor being normal is a pretty good sign there is nothing wrong with you... lots of people get palpitations, i get hundreds sometimes thousands on a bad day. i know theyre scary at first and its hard to beleive that feeling your heart stop hundreds of times a day is "normal" but the best thing to do is accept them and move on rather than obsess over them, there is probably nothing wrong with you. i was the same way when i was diagnosed, i wondered "hmm what if they missed a defect something and my heart just stops one of these times..." but youll get use to them eventually and then they wont bother you as much, just be annoying.

A heart monitor rules out very little. An echo shows more and an angiogram more still, then of course there are stress tests and lots of others. If you doctor thinks they are warranted, he will order them.

no only immediate, i think cause i don't know what your your talking about you need to be more specific and would think you would have asked your doctor while they were performing it on you. i assume you had a ECG or also ekg done. this can rule out current problems and possible cardiac escemia. maybe you have anxiety?
