Having acid reflux can cause lots of pain and discomfort in the heart and chest region. But to ease your worry, you would have to be asked a bunch of question, but in just what I know from your note is..your age - Yes, I have heard of 19 yr olds having heart attacks, but they are usually very very disciplined athletes for some reason. No one can really put there finger on that. Do you have any other health problems other than your acid reflux? That disease can "mimic" heart and chest pain, but it's not coming from your heart, or chest. It's coming from your esophogus, right from your stomach to the top of your throat. Also, you are not obese. I'm assuming your blood pressure is okay. How's your family history? Is there a history of very young people just dropping from heart attacks? If not, then your chances that you're NOT GOING TO HAVE ONE are very very good. I'm also going to assume that you don't have any other heart problems. Okay, so knowing what I do, I would say your chances of just having a heart attack, are about the same as you getting struck by lightning, or winning the jackpot of your local lottery. GOOD LUCK LOVE, and please stop worrying. There is absolutely no need. BUT if what I told you isn't enough, and by the way, I'm a nurse, then make an appointment with your family doctor just to make sure. You can have an ECG (electrocardiogram - measures the activity of the heart and can zone in on problems). Like I said, good luck....and please stop worrying senselessly! Live every day to the fullest, it's all we've got! Just right now.....

one thing for sure is not to worry about this.. the best thing to do is go to the doctor if you have any suspicions of having a heart attack.. acid reflux is a lot different than having a heart attack.. there is some good over the counter medicines for this.. prilosec for one, rolaids, tums...also the doctor can prescribe medicine for you if it is real bad...watching what you eat will help this alot...but the best thing to do to stop worrying is to get to the doctor for a complete physical and have things ruled. out...worrying will just bring on more problems for you...also when you are at the doctor find out if you are ok to start daily exercising even if it is just walking.. but at 19 you should be able to do more and it will make you feel better after a little while...

It's too bad that you are so young and have acid reflux. Although that might not be related to heart disease. I calculated your BMI (body mass index) and it's 26.6 which makes you slightly over weight, unless you are muscular and then BMI isn't a good indicator. I am not going to tell you that you aren't good to have a heart attack. You should try to eat healthy and get 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 4-5 day/week. And maybe lose 10-20lbs? All these things will help you prevent heart disease. And you have to maintain it through out your life.

ok ONE:Acid reflux isn't a risk for a Heart Attack- acid reflux walk hand in hand with GERD, GERD is gastroesophageal reflux disease. Acid reflux is caused by the abnormal backflow of food, stomach acid, and other digestive juices into the esophagus, which is the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach, the main symptom is heartburn but sometimes it may cause irritation and inflammation of the esophagus, or ulcers in the esophagus.

TWO: Important risk factors for heart disease. They are as follows:
Age and gender (The number of people affected by heart disease increases with age in men after age 45 and in women after age 55)
Smoking (smoking can increase risk)
Blood Pressure (if you have high blood pressure)
Cholesterol (if you have high cholesterol)

if your still concerned there is a website that you can take a test to see if your a high risk for a HA- (http://health.yahoo.com/topic/heart/other/tooldoc/healthwise/te7953;_ylt=AhSzEVANwtsOCqJHOa5nDebCu7cF)just copy and paste.

****The best thing someone can do is know as much possible about the thing thats worrying you. Knowledge is the best preventer.**** also if you are diagnosed with something learn as much about that as possible because it is now a part of you and you need to know how to treat it!!

A heart attack rarely happens in 19 year olds but im not going to say that it doesnt happen, it does happen and its starting to get more common these days. That's due to hereditary and lifestyle. Now, acid reflux really has nothing to do with getting a heart attack, but it does have something to do with someone's weight, not just their stomach. For people that are more overweight, they have more incidences with acid reflux because its harder to control due to the weight, but im not implying that you are overweight. Acid reflux does occur in skinny people. it has a lot to do with the foods you eat, such as milk, coffee, chocolate, spicy and fried foods, all those foods causes reflux. i dont think you should be entirely concern about getting a heart attack unless you are starting to feel the classic signs and symptoms (chest pain radiating to another part of the body, nausea and vomiting, sweating, shortness of breath) or if its really common in your family. if it DOES really concern you...talk to you doc and find out ways to prevent it. hope this helps!

It is unusual for a 19 year old to have heart disease unless it was present at birth. Lose weight, walk daily, remain stress free as possible, keep B.P.under control, get plenty of sleep, eat low fat healthy diet with lots of fruits and vegetables and whole wheat products, stay away from fast food, fried foods, sugary treats.anything that is quick and easy to prepare is full of sodium and fat.Ask you doc for med for A.reflux protonix, prevacid, nexium etc
