Why don't people answer intelligent questions?

Invariably loads of people answer questions like do you think that "Britney Spears has a nicer smile than Christina?" or "who would win in a fight between Scooby do and Lassie?" or "Did you think Joey will find true love after friends?" or "Big Mac or Whopper?" instead of "Do you think that Soron Kierkegaard was the precursor of existentialism?" or "Do you think there will be a unified theory to replace string theory?" etc etc etc
