Because the artist we wanted to hear was not on on the computer for sale or in any record store?
For instance Chris Ledoux to get a Record or Cassette Tape one would have to send the money to his parents Ranch.
Utah Phillips I have yet to find him in any CD Store but you can find him on the web. I got them from a family member who bought them from him.
The Grateful Dead used to have a mailing list that they would send you a demo of there new music. I do have some of these but I got them elsewhere. This group would give away there music just so people could hear them. I have a letter from them saying to spread the music around.
I betcha there are so many more of you who remember buying music this way? Lets hear your memories...
