i'm 14 and i'm an athiest and i'm just curious as to how many people out there share my beliefs (or lack thereof) i know there's alot. also, would you consider my generation to be somewhat athiest heavy? it's strange. i live in ohio and i know quite a few people at my school that are athiest. it just seems that there are a whole lot of athiest youths today compared to 50 years ago. why do you think this is? thanks for your answers in advance. i'm very interested to see what you all think.

It's hard to say since so many are in the closet, either because they are afraid of how society will react to their atheism or because their own life-long, brain-washing has made them fear something is wrong with them for feeling this way and doubting in God.

I would be careful who you tell this to in the real life. I made the mistake of telling my Muslim boss that I was "unsure" of what I believe and have been treated different ever since. He treats me like I am untrust-worthy and below him. Also, don't let your teachers know this. Be proud but be careful.

Well, one of the things that I think is that if you're going to be an atheist, you should learn to spell atheist correctly.
I recently read that 86% of Americans believe in a god. That leaves 14% who don't. I don't know the figures for the UK, but I'm sure they have a much higher percentage of rational people than we do.

Supposedly Atheists only make up about 5% of the US population? IMO, it is truly much higher and YES, I also believe that your generation is more Atheist heavy than earlier generations. As for "WHY" I really do not know?

It's difficult to say what the total number of atheists are, as many of them are nominally Christian or Jewish and are not outspoken about their atheism due to social pressure from their friends and family. My guess would be there's quite a lot of them, and it's my hope to see them all come "out of the closet".

No one will ever know. People change their beliefs every day. The number keeps changing.

I believed that it is, at most, around 15% in the US.
I do not know what the percentage is for the UK.

In the US, various polls indicate that between 10 and 14% of the US Population are non-believers. In Great Britain, I believe it's closer to around 60% and perhaps even higher.

Check your spelling. Ignore Jessica B - that is a rant designed to promote a delusion. Actually, I am guessing more people are agnostic rather than atheist.

I heard 20% of Americans don't associate with any church or religion. I'm not sure if that means they are actually atheists or just agnostic or what. I don't know about the UK, but I hear its worse (or better, depending on which side you're on).
