I'm a 16 year old girl, my parents are guyanese (south american) (i'm west indian) and my skin, although not super dark, is still quite dark.why is that a problem to so many people? It got to the point where i couldnt even look at myself in the mirror anymore..why do so many people think that lighter skin is so much more attractive..it is killing me inside..my skin is chocolate brown...and i want to think that any skin colour is beautiful.. i just have a hard time believing it when everyone badgers me about my dark skin compared to my siblings fair complexions....=((

It's not a bad thing. Some people just think that, since they have lighter complexions themselves. Don't you think that nobody is satisfied with what they have? Everyone else is always "better." The most beautiful thing in life is for someone to appreciate what they have - that's true beauty.
Also.. the people who tell you that dark skin is a bad thing..they're just saying that to make themselves feel more confident. Bullies always do that..they take pleasure in making others feel uncomfortable. Usually, bullies are the more insecure ones.
Don't fall for their schemes..you are beautiful in knowing that every skin color is beautiful.

Back in the colonial era, dark skin used to be seen as inferior, and slavers chose black people because it would be easy to identify one who ran away. Some people haven't let go of that sentiment. The only difference skin color really makes is how long it takes to get sunburnt.

This concept of lighter skin color came about as a way to control groups of people. If you have a culture that has predominately brown skin a way to come in and dominate Colonize) these people is to pit them against each other. Making skin color the object of desire was and still is a way to make people from the same culture feel they are better than each other based on the fairness of their skin. Read " Things fall apart ", "The Children of Sánchez". and "Four Feathers"

I guess that pig james zzz dunno wot have a problem with dark skin people.
I am of tan complexion and many people find pretty and attractive and many whites like me also.
I dont thnk havin dark skin is a problem.We should be very proud that we are the people who dont need to be afraid to get skin damage problem or cancer.OH YEAH JAMES CAN GET IT SINCE HE THINKS HE IS WHITE LIKE MILK.
Proud to be dark skin.
God made us black he knows the reason behind.

Babygirl your skin is beautiful it doesn't matter what anybody thinks. When i was your age I got badgered because i'm a redbone. I did everything i could to get darker but nothing worked. that's just how people are when you're young. don't listen to em just love yourself

I think all natural skin tones are beautiful from ivory to dark chocolate. I'm extemely fair and I don't tan. I appreciate what God gave me and so should you. Some may not like my fair pale skin, that's okay. If they don't like your dark skin that's okay too. Love yourself and take care of your beautiful skin. Happy New Year. 2D

I do not think that anybody thinks that. Oh sure the movies influence the world often, and they are made in LA. Aishwarya Rai is the undisputed most beautiful woman in the world. Also I think white mothers do not want their children to marry dark haired and dark skinned people because those are dominant genes. Every mother wants her grandchildren to look like her. But I will never live to see the day that a grandmother does not think her grandchildren are beautiful. I wish you would post your picture.
Besides you can look good without panty hose.
You can't live your life based on what other people think. You have to not let them get to you, and realize that you are beautiful yourself. It will come out in you. Halle Berry was People magazine's most beautiful women in the world two years.

u know being black is amazing, its a unique color without you knowing it,, sumtimes i wish that im black, your color is just nothing, people cnnot judge you by your color, you know your self better than them, its a gift, look at the supermodel nowadays, they never let their colors blocked their confident, be proud! xoxo, XP

your skin colour is what you received from your god. Do you know some people are looking for a white skins but some are looking at dark skins its might be black or chocolate colour. try to be pleasent in your dress and talk with a good smile then people will look at you at dark beauty. good luck
