If I have an HDMI cable, do I need the other component cables that come with the ps3 in order for the ps3 to work or can I just use the HDMI cable only without the components?

You still need to use your composite cables in order to see the cross bar menu so that you can do the switch from composite to HDMI. Once you switch it to HDMI, you don't need any other cables.

If you choose to use the HDMI connection for your PS3, you will not need any other A/V cables.

all you gotta do is to set the display to HDMI and then that will be it. no other cables are needed. HDMI carries both digital video and audio signals.

HDMI is all you need. When you plug it in, the ps3 will ask you if you want it in HD. It's pretty much plug and play. You don't need any other cables, HDMI will do HD and sound all in one cable.

HDMI is all you need.

You can run surround sound directly from the PS3 to your digital receiver or from a digital audio output on your TV, if you have those outputs / receiver. The HDMI will still send the audio to your TV whatever you do.
