I'm an atheist so I get to look down on southerners.

And to Annie: Yes we are perfect, by your standards.

I am from the hillbilly South (Arkansas), and I have never met anyone who married their sister, cousin, or any other family member. Also, if Cain married his sister it was only to fulfill God's demands to populate the earth. But, I never read that in the bible anyways.

LOL. its absurd to think Cain only had children with one partner...or for that matter Adam. we dont know how intelligent Adam and Eve were as their knowledge of the physical world was one from total bliss to having to toil the earth to eat or survive. The one thing we do know is they knew God existed but they also believed in talking serpents.

I live in the northern part of the Midwest, and I used to attend church with someone who married her mother's cousin's son. When I found out I nearly puked, and I don't associate with that church, that religion or those people anymore. There are six billion people on earth, so there's no excuse to marry your relative. My point is that I used to think that was southern thing, but now I know there are creepy people everywhere. I have never been taught that Cain married one of his sisters. That is creepy too, but I don't think it's true.

Horrible generalization there.

The situation for Cain was a unique one in earth's history. A similar circumstance arose after the flood but by the time God gave the Law through Moses, the genetic problems with such a relationship were serious enough to warrant God's forbidding it.

Hope that helps.

Incest was not even DEFINED until Moses received the Torah from God, MANY years after Cain existed. Laws, even HUMAN laws, aren't retroactive, so even if Cain DID marry his sister, he did nothing wrong.
