Most Christians here would not of recognized him back in the 1st century just as they would not recognize him today if he returned: They would label him a liberal and crucify him all over again.

well, i challenge and have some animosity towards willfully ignorant and smugly bigoted Fundies not Jesus.
and had i been there when Jesus was strolling around performing miracles i'd probably be quite impressed. i mean ... i'd be just as superstitious and ignorant of science as those around me so wouldn't even know enough to consider other explanations for the miraculous things i was witnessing.

First something needs to actually exist to BE challenged. Since there's no proof that Jesus ever existed other than whats in the bible (which isn't proof), there was no Jesus to be challenged.
That being said, I doubt it. I would have just thought him a complete wackjob and ignored him the way I ignore the other wackjobs on the street.

Why? Unless he took a swing at me I wouldn't have any reason to be hostile toward him.
I'm not hostile toward him now, just his brainwashed fundie followers.

The 1st Century? No problem. It's wasn't until the 3rd Century that they got control and became as vindictive as the people who persecuted them.

Everyone who only wanted to see physical miracles and manifestations became hostile to Him when He confronted them by telling them that if they did not eat His flesh and drink His blood, they could no longer be part of Him.
Jesus came from Heaven and spoke Heavenly language, but man could not understand it because they refused to believe.
Jesus came to take away the sins of the world, so that man could again have fellowship with God. You see a sinner can never be in Gods presence, that is why He came and paved this way for us. He was the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world John 1:29.
Jesus came as a Lamb of God..... have you ever seen a hostile lamb? Only God's enemies will say He was hostile.
But you wanna see a hostile God...just carry on mocking and despising Him even when you are told to repent and be saved. In revelations we are told of a fearsome King riding on a horse appearing in the sky with tens of thousands of angels.....with a sword in His hand...talk about fear man....the bible tells us that sinful people will call upon the mountains to fall upon them so that they can avoid Him.
Ps. When you ask a question please ask it correctly then you won't have need to add in extra details making the answer irrelevant.

It wasn't untill the 3rd century AD that Emporer Constantine transformed the popular cult into an actual religion.....so I don't think it would be such a big deal to challenge Jesus back then.
You should read a book that isn't the Bible for a change.
