I live in Texas (central time zone) at midnight the TV shows the ball dropping "live" in NYC. Wouldn't that make it 1am in NYC?

It was 11:00pm(CST) in AL when I watched the ball drop "live". If you saw it at 12:00 then it was a taped replay. Generally, Eastern and Central time zones get the same programming. For Central it's just an hour earlier. Western time zone would get it live 3 hrs earlier but most network programs are shown by tape delay at least 2 hours later than the east coast showing.

while it is MIDNIGHT in New York, it is 11 PM in most of Texas and only 10 PM in the section of Texas around El Paso and west.
They MAY replay it when it is midnite in your part of Texas.

I must say, the person who asked doesn't Texas have their own traditions is right.

I live in NYC, and I think it's great to look to my hometown for many things. We're a great City, and there is much to emulate here.

However, some things should really be local. Places should have their own traditions. So, yes, Texas should have something of their own to start New Years!

That being said, we had a great New Years here in NYC. No, I didn't bother to go to Times Square. That's for tourists.

We went to a friends house with our kids, and there were lots of adults and lots of kids there. We all brought a lot of food and we all ATE a lot of food. We watched Fred Astaire and played board games and the kids ran around like nuts! Then we all watched the ball drop, kisses and hugged, had lousy champagne (that's my one regret, that we didn't bring the wine! It was awful!!!) The kids had sparkling apple juice. Then we went outside on the stoop and watched fireworks. As we walked home, we ran into lots of other people heading home, all a bit drunk, but happy. Everyone smiling and in a good mood!

So, Happy New Year from here in Brooklyn, NYC!!!!
