Basically the wire is "stripped" and there's no "top" to it...do I just need a replacement top?

It is a cable line and the cable line running to the other room can be seen in the wall...it's not too short because it's just supposed to go through a wall mounted F connector...which I have, but I just took off to get the picture...Length isn't really an issue...plus I think you can buy "extenders" or whatever.

Ooooooooh......that sucks...

Looks SHORT too......

MY suggestion is to call the Cable company and tell them their connector wire is too short and needs lengthening....

THEN HOPE THAT IS A CABLE LINE....if it isn't and you don't PRESENTLY pay for cable services, they will NOT service that line.....

I've SEEN "He who holds the remote" 's WORKMANSHIP several times out there.....the pliers just destroy the shield connections.....

I'd call a TV repair shop and ask them if they can CRIMP a new connector on....
The problem is they need to know the markings on the cable OR come out and inspect the cable to see if it's RG-6 or older RG-59 cabling....Crimpers and connectors must match the wire.....

I used to have BOTH....now I carry neither, as too little people ask for these services....

You need an "F" connector.

You can either call your CATV company who will come out and put connectors on for you, or go to Radio Shack and buy a package of push-on F connectors.

The only trick is to put on the "O" ring on the cable first, push back the outer foil/braid then push on the F connector. Slide the "O" ring up and clamp GENTLY with pliers.

Or you can get screw-on connectors, but make sure to push back the foil/braid.
