I wouldn't, but I also know we don't need 20-30 million fruit pickers.

For all the supposed benefit of Illegals picking fields, does anyone take the time to contemplate the enormous costs associated with supporting them in all other aspects, medically, financially, schools, roads cars, injuries, lawsuits, etc...............................I think that the loss of those folks would be minimal as they can apply for work visas (limited time) and then return home. The enormity of the costs associated with these folks is staggering. Many hospitals around me are closing down because of the financial burden imposed, as well as the many schools that are displacing american kids so that they can babysit a non english speaking child. Where is the benefit?? I can grow my own garden thank you it is much more cost effective , not to mention my kids could get the jobs that kids use to do that are now filled by illegals.. Just my 2 c

The people would be there to do those jobs. Also agricultural technology is advancing and some of those jobs can be done by machines. You have to know the illegals are in every facet of the work force. I work in a factory in the midwest and they raided it and got 68 illegals. Those jobs were filled with no loss of production.

sorry the reality is they won't stay in the jobs so we'll just have an endless need for people to pick our fruit and vegies if we solve the illegal immigration issue the way pro illegal supporters would have us do. there is a foreign guest worker program and when illegal immigrants come to the U.S. and work these jobs it displaces real migrant workers who do come to work the fields then return to mexico. additionally because plenty of farmers are only interested in the reduction of their overhead (which they don't pass on to consumers) there is a sc**wing to be had by U.S. workers. the following is from an ARTICLE; According to the lawsuit, during the 2005-2006 citrus season, the contractor failed to follow its usual hiring practices in favor of hiring foreign workers from Mexico. "The contractor would traditionally contact the workers by letter, telephone, word-of-mouth or recruit them from parking lots in San Luis, Ariz., and inform them about the start of the harvest season," Bridge said. "That is the way it has always been done." The lawsuit further states, rather than rehiring the U.S. field workers, the contractor sought permission from the Department of Labor to hire 150 foreign workers because it could not find qualified U.S. workers. The DOL approved the request in June 2006.
Bridge said the contractor intentionally set the wages and working hours below prevailing market conditions in an effort to make the jobs undesirable to U.S. workers. To protect the wages and working conditions of the domestic agricultural work force, federal law requires employers to extend preferences to qualified U.S. farm workers before turning to foreign labor. "This case addresses serious abuses in the H-2a foreign guest-worker program," said Marni Willenson, an attorney with Farmworker Justice in Washington, D.C. "Employers are not permitted to import foreign labor when U.S. workers are available. "The law is supposed to protect the rights of U.S, workers first. Unfortunately, we have observed that this sort of displacement is becoming more common, because foreign labor is cheap and the Department of Labor will approve employer applications without any real scrutiny of the claim."****** so in answer to your question i guess these folks (U.S. citizens) would have liked to do field-hand work but were scre**d out of the job. NOW do you think this is the only time this has happened? i too grow my own fruit and will look forward to a vegetable garden this year. both of which will be picked by me.

yawn...this excuse is getting old and tired.
I get my fruits and vegetables from the local Amish farmer or I pick them myself. You will never find an illegal working an Amish farm, they do all the work themselves without any machinery.
If I had to feed my family I would take whatever job I could find to accomplish that. To say that Americans won't do these jobs is bull. The work all got done before we were invaded.

You mentioned that as long as they obey the law they should be allowed to stay. By entering the country illegally they are breaking the law...

I did those type of jobs when I was younger,
Been there ...... done that .......
Can you say the same thing ?
Also , I read a report that said... If Americans were to do the work and be paid around 15.00 to pick fruit it would increase the average family grocery bill by a addition 10.00 a month.
The cost of labor is a very low cost compared to all the other steps it takes to get produce to the store shelves.

Modern machinery. Much cheaper in the long run. Less chance of food poisoning From unwashed feces covered hands. NOW KID: reality in the USA due to free trade laws two thirds of the fruits & vegetables in this country no longer are grown here. GET IT ? ** They steal our tradesmen jobs.**

I can hear the answers coming: if the companies paid higher wages, Americans would do the job.
Wrong. The companies would just outsource and import.
