Isn't it kind of funny that even though some people debate over whether God is male or female, everyone almost always seem to universally agree that the Devil is male?

I wonder why that is?

I suppose there have been some fictional depictions of the Devil being female (like in the movie "Bedazzled"), but in terms of serious discussions, I've never heard of anyone trying to argue that the Devil is female, the way they do with God.

Catholics believe that God transcends the human distinction between the sexes.

It is traditional and scriptural to address God as He or Him. However, if you wish, it would not be wrong to address God as She or Her.

Remember immediately after describing God as the Good Shepherd, Jesus describes God as a woman looking for her lost coin (Luke 15:8-10).

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 239: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect2chpt1art1p2.htm

Angels including fallen angels like Satan are also neither male not female. Once again people talk of angels and Satan as male just because of tradition and convenience not because of true belief.

With love in Christ.

Mel Gibson cast a woman to play Satan in "The Passion of the Christ" so it must be so.

Our puny human minds have to make God into OUR image and likeness. God is not a human being, and has no gender. The devil probably falls into the same category.

Jesus became a human being, and the human Jesus was a man.

The use of "He" is a literary device, formerly common, but now frequently replaced with some gender non-specific word. I'm a feminist myself, but using the term "he" as an undefined human being, or "man" meaning all of mankind works just fine for me.

What about that Johnny Depp movie? That devil was a woman.

The evil one is a being of fire. I don't know if they are male or female.

Makes no sense to me either. Satan is an angel and can change It's perceived gender at whim if assuming physical form. God is a non corporeal force existing within and without all matter in the universe. Applying our gender roles and personality traits to It is the same as having a monkey god.

What about that song "Devil with a blue dress on." I think they mean female unless the devil is a cross dresser. LOL

Even more amusing is the fact that people assign a gender to their god in the first place.

but "nooo plumbing is a man's job!!"
"a woman could control the military!" "omg i need my husband to kill the bug!"
same concept.
