It really depends. Some kids are just bigger than other kids, it is based on genetics. My daughter (will be 9 in March) wears a size 8 pants which fit perfectly in the waist, but they are always WAY too long, while her brother (will be 7 in April) wears a 7 slim...and they are just barely long enough and still a little big in the waist. Meanwhile their cousin who just turned 7 in August, wears a 12 now. All of these children are considered in the normal weight range for their height and build.

For kids, you really need to go by their height/weight percentiles rather than their size compared to their age .

It really just depends on age. I think that all clothing should be similiar to the way guys jeans are sized (such as 32 * 30 or what not) it would get rid of the issue of a tall kid wearing the right length but the pants being way to big at the waist.

When my daughter moved in, she was in 8-10, and she was 10.

Now she is 12 and is in 12-14.

Ages and sizes have NOTHING to do with each other!!!!!
You must look at the gene pool from both sides of the family to determine what size your child may end up being.

Like maybe 6 or 8. I work at a Pre-K and the girls there wear a 4t or a 5. ( I can read the tags on their extra clothes they have in there backpacks.) But yeah, all kids are different sizes.

Honestly, I think the sizing on kids' clothes is really arbitrary. I know a girl who was in size 11 when she was six, and I know a boy who is ten and still wearing 6. Kids grow at all kind of crazy rates... I think if you're worried, go for a medical check-up, but some kids are just late bloomers, and some are early bloomers.

Also... sizes of clothes made in China are much smaller. For probably obvious reasons. As I said, EXTREMELY variable.

Happy new year to you and your family.

People (even young people) come in all shapes and sizes. Hard to answer that question.
