I am a Libertarian. I figure most of these issues, including gays and abortion, "ain't nobody's business if I do," as Billie Holiday put it. We really have no business putting laws on the way people make private decisions that harm no one else.

Having said that, I realize that anti-abortion forces will say that it does harm someone else: the fetus. The critical issue there is exactly when a fetus becomes a person. I cannot follow the logic of those who say it is a person from the moment of conception, because so many fertilized eggs fail to implant, or are spontaneously aborted due to defects. It makes more sense to me to say that it is a person when it could survive outside the womb if necessary. And that changes as medical science is able to do more to save very premature babies.

It's a judgment call, and I cannot think there is anyone more qualified to make that judgment and weigh all the factors other than the pregnant woman. So if you disapprove of abortion, help those troubled girls and women by making more alternatives available, and more attractive.
