mom3, I agree with you, but for JW's, it DOES matter. JW's are the greatest defenders of the genetic fallacy.

Pioneering, if you had way better things to be doing, you wouldn't be responding. And why should I go to the trouble of researching it when it's easier to just ask?

2007-12-31 17:02:00 · update #2

Gramps, you can't advocate logic while, at the same time, evading the question. You know good and well that by "allow" I'm asking if JW's think there is anything morally wrong with watching the ball drop. Whether you think it's silly or not, whether you would WANT to do it or not, is irrelevent, and you know it.

2007-12-31 17:26:12 · update #3

Ishvarla, what's with all the evasive answers? You guys keep pretending like you don't know what I mean by "allow," and then you go on to pretend that the only reason you don't watch the ball drop is because you don't find it interesting, and you have other things to do.

How do JW's expect to gain any credibility by being dishonest?

Yes.

While a true Christian does not celebrate pagan holidays (such as the worship of the pagan god Janus at New Year's Eve), the exact nature of "celebration" is left to each individual and family head.

It seems odd that a questioner would believe that watching something would constitute participation. Bible students may recall that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were actually three Hebrew Jews named Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. The Babylonian government staged a pagan ceremony which involved pagan idol worship. The Hebrews did not feel it necessary to altogether stay away from the ceremony, but they did make it clear that they would not actually participate even if it meant their lives.

Like those faithful Hebrews, Jehovah's Witnesses recognize that they are a religious minority, surrounded by those too-comfortable with pagan false worship. Yet, like those faithful Hebrews, Jehovah's Witnesses may choose to observe, but never choose to participate.

So, if I understand, on your opinion, Doing some thing harmless that others do improperly, is the comparable as collaborating in some thing with undesirable purpose. there's a distinction. I placed on outfits. My wiccan brother does to. besides the incontrovertible fact that, there isn't a non secular importance to easily donning outfits. collaborating in pagan events is specifically Pagan in purpose. by potential of your suggestion, one would desire to assert homicide is fantastic. because of the fact some human beings shoot there weapons, only to hit tin cans, shooting somebody with the point to kill is the comparable. I, in over 2 years on Y!A, and a great type of extra years residing, have by no potential considered evidence that wedding ceremony rings, or eating food interior the night have PAGAN roots. Swastikas ARE a Nazi image. If somebody advised you, oh I placed on a swastika, in help of Nazis, yet because of the fact this is a few thing I do to have relaxing with my family members, might you compromise?? It additionally jogs my memory of a controversy somebody as quickly as posed at here that because of the fact I, admitedly, do not checklist each and every answer/question/remark, then I shouldn't checklist ANY of them. The consumer looked as though it would pass over the completed foundation for reporting, that it is not a "get even" tactic, yet only a fashion of marking some thing as being, interior the consumer's oppinion, in Violation of TOS. I usually discover it humorous that somebody on Y!A, might say, nicely in case you are trying this element, you're doing some thing undesirable, so why not do different issues that are undesirable. in case you think of eating interior the night is Pagan and incorrect, do not. yet only because of the fact someone does try this, would not propose they could then have fun pagan trip journeys.

"Allowed"?

Why do people ask the strangest things here on Yahoo Answers?

I'm an adult. I can watch the silly ball drop if I choose. ( I did, by the way.)

Should have gone to Dillsburg, Pa. and watched the Pickle drop!

allowed????

we can do as we wish.
i do not wish to watch some silly program.

i have a real life.

now, if someone WANTS to do that, and they are silly enough to miss STAR TREK reruns, hey, i can't stop them.

that is kinda like whether we are 'allowed' to watch football games, as f/b is sorta rough or violent.

if it consists of OSU beating michigan, then it is fine.

logic, young grasshopper.

and, one must get a life.

:-)

Why would I waste my time watching the ball drop? I have better things to do...like sleep.

What's the big deal about a new year anyway? So what?

Anyone who claims to be a christian would not involve themselves in the revelries, which IS condemned in the Bible.

Anyway...NO, there is NOTHING wrong with watching a stupid ball drop, seeing the new year come. But, again, what is the big deal about a new year?

You are still a loser.
