As in what did the refs allow him to do after the bird dropped the ball into a water. Did he have to play it as if the ball landed in the hazard and he had to drop or was he allowed a mulligan or a rehit?

I believe the ruling is that if the ball is moved by an
outside source like a dog running off with it or
whatever the player is allowed to place the ball in
a position nearest to it's original location as determined
by the officials and players involved.
