If it's not an OME version of XP you may be able to call Microsoft and tell them that you lost your key, they'll require you to read everything on the disc to ensure it's not a pirated copy. I had to do this almost a year ago when my son got into my computer drawer and lost my Vista Ultimate key they only charged $10, and do ask where you purchased it from and so on.

If Microsoft updates were downloaded and installed previously, then there might be a record of the product key with Microsoft. I would email them if they do have a record of your key. Include your ISP, Vendor, etc...

Hello!!!!????...What were you thinking? If the product key is not labeled on the side of the computer or on the case that the XP disk came in....Oh well, you are screwed as MS will not help you although you could try calling them. They will try to sell you a new code though....It is MS you are dealing with!!!!!

There should be a sticker on the computer casing with a code on it if the computer came with xp already installed.
If not then I guess you'll have to obtain a new xp disc and run set up again

The only thing you can do at this point is contact your brother and see if he still has the product key.
