Does any one know if the Federal Bureau of Prisons sends letters to references to inquire about the applicant? or, Do they telephone each reference?, I am just curious because one of my references just changed her telephone number.

Yes, they check. You need to submit an addendum to your application with the new number.

The reference that just changed her number will surely have a recording that gives the new number.
