The word from Hebrew and Greek we translate into "Kingdom" has two basic meanings.

1st: it applies to the government that rules over a country.

2nd: it can also apply to the people who live in that country.

Neither of these definitions denote a "condition of the heart"

Understanding what the Kingdom is, requires an accurate bible.

As King of the Kingdom (definition #1) Jesus was in their mist, not that the kingdom was in their hearts.

Dan 7:18 But the holy ones of the Supreme One will receive the kingdom, and they will take possession of the kingdom for time indefinite, even for time indefinite upon times indefinite.

This verse tells us that Jesus was going to have 'co-rulers' in this Kingdom.

Dan 2:44 “And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite;

This verse tells us that Jesus was going to destroy all other governments, and set up his own government.

Who are going to enjoy the benefits of this government?

Rev 21:3 With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

I know what it isn't - it's not a democracy.

That does bother me a bit.

The words of the Bible cannot be interpreted literally. Everything is stated in parables. Not exact, irrefutable fact, but largely in symbolic form, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation. And man will interpret but I personally think half of the interpretations are off course. Man tends to see things from his own viewpoint, so I take the words in the Bible with a grain of salt. I think we can trust the general message, summed up by the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The kingdom of God is within all of us, killers and all, though the latter have strayed off course. Jesus discriminates against no one. Man does that!

I heard a scholar on the history channel. I believe his name is John Crossman. He's a cross between a priest, heathen and historian. Anyway, he said that, "the kingdom of God." is a political term. As if it were actually meant to challenge the political system of the times which were, of course, not accepted by the Jews.

Remember, Jesus may have been a descendant of King David which would have made him a legitimate candidate for King of the Jews. Herod was not.

1 Corinthians 6:19
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

1 Peter 2:5
