Molly S, because of the Rebellion of Satan, which happened in the 1st earth age, God destroyed all life from earth. You can, if you wish document it from the Bible here:

My theory is that there is an undefined amount of time between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. Lets start with this question. Who tells the punchline before they tell the joke? No one, right? Well, get this, in genesis 1:1 people are telling everyone that they are telling the point of the story before the tell the story...it makes no sense. 2)Honestly, do you think that the best God could do when he created the Earth is "void and without form". Why would God waste his time to make something "void and without form"? Is 45:18 For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens God himself that formed the earth and made it he hath established it he created it not in vain he formed it to be inhabited: There is God saying he formed it to be in habited, right? The word for void is the same in Hebrew as the word vain. So God is saying he didn't create the void. Something else did. Like say the fight in Rev. 12 when Satan was thrown to the Earth. We know Satan Had to be thrown to the Earth already, Because he talks to Eve in Genesis 3. Next, the word was in "the earth was void" can be translated as became. So it also could be translated the earth became void and without form. Lastly, if God didn't create the earth for the first time in Genesis 1:1 why is it called the Earth in Genesis 1:2 and not called a big hunk of mess waiting to be created?

Anybody can pick apart each word of the Bible and make it say anything they want it to say.

I believe God knows the meanings of every word in every language. When He ordained the King James Bible He knew what it would say. He knows the meaning of the words 'day' and 'year' The world, by God's own Word, is less than 10,000 years old.

////////////////Edit/////////////
No, that is NOT documentation of what you say. That is someone else's opinion of what the Bible says. I can see no proof of the gap theory in the Bible.

No the only proof of the age of the Bible is 6 to 7 thousand years old. To believe it is older as a Christian you have to go with the gap theory. Which believes that Genesis 1:2 means the earth existed before creation and it was originally here for the devil and the fallen angels. Then God re-created it in the seven day creation.

Many Christians do not believe this because they say that it makes God a liar in that it would have to mean that sin existed before the fall but I don't see it that way at all.
Just because God may have done something one way before man and the fall doesn't mean it has anything to do with the creation as we understand it. They don't have anything to do with each other in that sense. Like if you make something one way for one and you make a covenant with another you don't have to treat them equally.

From the Gap Theory of Genesis 1:1 - 1:2 there is no way to determine how old the Earth is with the Bible that I know of. I have personally done the search into the Hebrew and found that it is so.

Tradition is typically wrong, I have found with controversial subjects.

All of the scientific (as opposed to the biblical) evidence suggests that Earth is about 4.5 billion years old.

It is very difficult to document the age through science or the Bible.

Grace and peace to all.

The Bible is not a science book, but I would not put human limitations to our All powerful God. He can make things aged.

Umm...no? The Bible doesn't actually give a specific time period...but if you do your homework you will find that the earth is likely under 10,000 years old.
