I do not understand how athiests can claim to be spiritual when they have absolutely no belief outside of science? How can you believe in a soul (spirit) if you don't believe that it is part of a higher power? The human body does not have the ability to create a non-physical essence.

Believe it or not, I am actually curious for a serious answer.

Cindy, you probably have believed in God all of your life. So I guess you wouldn't know. But not believing in God does not stop one from feeling. You can still be awed by the building thunder clouds and classical music will still put you at peace.

You suggest that atheists "don't believe in anything" but that is not true. I, for example, do not believe in god because I see no evidence for his existence --- but I do believe that fundamentalists are stupid because all of the evidence points in that direction.

You also suggests that atheists have no belief outside of science and I have to say that you are wrong again. Science has supplied a huge pile of evidence to back up all of its claims, so I can accept its findings quite easily without resorting to a mere "belief" that it has found the truth.

As for that stuff about "non-physical essence", I think I'll give that a miss for the time-being.

I believe in energy. This energy connects us with everything on this planet. And death disperses that energy whether positive or negative, back into the universe to be used for something else.
I try to be a good person to spread positive energy.
I also believe in magick, which is a manipulation of that energy.
You may not believe this or think it is totally wacko, but that is why it's my belief and not yours.

Belief is a burden.

I perform firedance rituals that induce out-of-body experiences. While I am in that OBE, I encounter Fenrirulfr (Fenris Wolf from Norse mythology). We talk about various things, mostly some sort of personal revelation.

Just because I recognize the whole thing as a hallucination brought on by hyperthermia doesn't change the impact of the experience.

Who's claiming not to believe in anything? I thought we were talking about not believing in God.

"The human body does not have the ability to create a non-physical essence." - You've obviously never had an idea, or written a story.

I'm not. Although I would like to point out I do not "believe" science. It is true because it is supported by evidence, not because I think it is.
