I do.
I believe God can create things to appear older. He can create things aged.

No the earth is most likely far much older. From a christian point of view, the bible stated that "IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH" and it was (or became) without form, and void meaning God created the earth and after some time it's original form changed (erosion). The actual creation week happened after the earth was already created. No one but God can know specifically how long ago that was. It could have been anywhere between 1second before creation week to billions of years before creation week. However, i believe humanity is appproximately 6,000 yrs old. And remember we were the last to be created.

To create the earth to appear to be billions of years old when its thousands of years would indicate the supreme is being deceptive. That's a trait normally associated with Satan, isn't it? I do recall God using a "lying spirit" to deceive. Curious.

Here is how it is recounted in I Kings: "And the LORD said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. 21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ 22 The LORD said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ 23 Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you".

Fact...

"...an initial population of only two people, increasing at 2% per year, would become 3.5 billion people in only 1075 years. Since written records go back over 4,000 years, it is obvious that the average growth rate throughout past history has been considerably less than the present rate."

Deal with it...

Addendum
the current rate of increase in the population is roughly 2% per year. Obviously on the front end of calculating a 2% increase there would be an initial increase larger than 2% as the first couple started having kids. Duhhhhhhhhhhuuhhhhmmmmmmgrunt.

OK. So mathematically, just to get the ball rolling let's say in the first 60 years that three couples (post flood - Noahs sons) had six kids each resulting in 9 potential couples but we will just say six...then the six couples had six kids each resulting in a potential 18 couples..but let's just leave it at 10 couples or 20 people and forget about the parents and grandparents that still may be alive....then go forward from 20 people at 2%increase/year. After 1000 years the number is pushing 8 billion. Obviously mortality was higher the further you go back in history so let's just use a growth rate of .5% per year and go 4000 years to see what happens. The number? About 9 billion. Again pandemics and catastrope could have gleaned a large number fo the earths inhabitant anywhere along the way because obviously wehave been around for more than 4000 years and we don't have 9 billion people yet.

Please, in the future, don't send me any more private emails lecturing me about mathematics until you check the facts.

Ahem...coughcough ddeeeeuhhhhmmmmmmgrunt.

No, as a Christian, I know that God's Word says it's millions, if not billions, of yrs. old. The source below will document it for you right from the Word of God.

So, did you really ask a question to learn? or are you just challenging everyone?

The earth can be anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 years, but no older.

A study was made by some aliens from another galaxy to determine the average age of the typical high school student.

They took the average height, divided by the average gain in height per year, and calculated them to be on the average about 72 years old.

They wanted to double check this, so they took the average weight, divided by the average weight gain, and came up with the same figure.

Of course, the aliens from the other galaxy is fictitious, but if you do the math for yourself, you'll come to the conclusion that the average age of a typical high school student is 72 years old.

What's wrong with this? The math is correct, but the conclusion is wrong. When you can figure out what's wrong with this picture, then you'll know what's wrong with the calculations of the age of the earth.

Just as the high school student is MUCH younger than the math suggests, so also the age of the earth is much younger than the calculations suggest, and for the same reason.

Probably not that young, but younger than the millions that some guessers proclaim.

I have no problem seeing God creating a young old earth. The reason for this is for some life to be healthy other life must be dieing and decaying. Many think of a pristine baby earth with very young new growth. The eco systems don't support this at all. It had to be at full maturity in order to exist.

Grace and peace to all.
