I was wondering if many people let their dogs sleep in their bed.

I myself let my Chihuahua sleep in my bed because she is small, clean (I bathe her regularly), and she doesn't disturb my sleep...plus, she is so darn cute!

I wasn't asking for a lecture about whether a dog should or should not sleep in bed with you, I was simply asking if you let your dogs sleep in bed with you!

I also have a Chi and my fiance is not an indoor pet person. He said that if we got a dog in no way would it be allowed to sleep in the bed. I tried to crate train him with awful howls all night (it broke my heart) after 3 days of this I went away on business for 4 days and came home to the puppy and my honey in bed and under the covers. The dog has been there ever since and we are both happy with him there. Dogs are pack animals and would rarely if ever sleep alone you are now her pack and that is where she feels safe....sweet puppy dreams!

I have a 110 lbs yellow Lab who sleeps in bed with me since he was 7 weeks old. I would have it no other way, and he has no behavior problems and is extremely well trained. He knows that the bed in my room and the basement sofa are the only pieces of furniture he is allowed on. He never gets on the guest beds, nor the sofa in the TV room or any of the 5 pieces of furniture in the living room. Through training his knows where he can and can not go and there are no problems. My moms Pit Bull is the same way. Since he was a puppy he was allowed in the bed but not on any other furniture. It all comes down to training, and your preferences. I have owned many dogs from Akitas to Rottweilers, GSDs, to Cattle dogs and all had the same rules and NOT one had behavior problems. not one ever had an accident in the bed or house, and that is over 25 years of dogs and about 40 different dogs. The only dogs I never allowed in the bed were foster dogs only because I did not know what their new owners preferred.

I have a german shepherd that used to sleep with us.He still can but the cat hogged his spot at the foot of the bed and refuses to move now so he sleeps in his bed or on the couch at night.

Don't listen to the naysayers! Until my pup was 8 months old I had her sleep in an open-top pen (like a playpen). Bedtime was a nightmare (she hated to go in the pen). No matter how late I kept her up, by 6/6:30 am she was crying to get out and I was afraid if I didn't get up and tend to her she would disturb the landlord. At 8 months I started letting her sleep with me. She climbs up to the head of the bed and nestles in my pillow with me (she is now 17 months old and 11 1/2 pounds). She is quite content there for most of the night. Sometimes she gets down and would sleep on the floor next to the bed. I got her a flat pillow-bed and now she has the option of her bed or mine. Bedtime is a pleasure and she sleeps sometimes until 8/8:30 am. It really eliminated the stress of nighttime and morning time. If your dog is well-behaved, isn't going to destroy your bed or house during the night. If your dog isn't one to get into dangerous situations when unmonitored then there is no reason they can't sleep with you. Dogs are a great comfort to people and dogs being pack animals sleep better when they are snuggled up with their pack leader (you).

Yep! She doesn't sleep up there when I'm there, though. She does come say good night and snuggles with me a bit. She's a 45 lb. Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix. She likes room to sprawl out. So do I, come to think of it.

I have had a dog sleep in my bed since age 6, and I always will. My current dogs sleep under my blankets near my knees. They love it, but honestly, it's more for me than for them! I love the coziness they bring to a bed!

I let my Bichon sleep in bed with me, he loves to sleep with his nose out the window he is so nosy LOL I let my Shih Tzu sleep with me as well but she doesn't stay the whole night in my bed, she will usually leave and go sleep in one of the beds we have around the house for the dogs.
