Ok.....my partner and I occasionally pass wind in front of each other, but generally we would go out of the room and do it just so the other person doesn't have to suffer, you know? Just to be polite. But my family came to visit recently and they just pass wind anywhere! In front of us, right next to you, for goodness sake my mother passes wind in the supermarket and doesn't care if it is loud or smelly!!! Does anyone think this is a bit rude?

More than a bit rude; it's beyond tacky. Barring a physical condition that makes someone unable to control it, your family acted like The Oaf Clan. You have every right to be mortified by their behavior.

I think it's very tacky. My husband and I don't do it in front of each other. We use the bathroom. People should have more respect for themselves and show a little bit of class. Happy New Year. 2D

When I was a kid I used to hate grocery shopping with my mother. She would wait until we were in a crowded isle, let a looooong, LOUD one rip, then act like I was the one who did it!
My friend's brother goes for the 'silent but deadly' type, then asks everyone if they smell smoke, so we all take a deep breath! Ya gotta have a sense of humor. I laugh while I'm gagging!

Gas must be passed--it is a fact of life and a necessity if you do not want your colon to explode. As long as they are not hovering above an open flame, all is good...

IF YOU EAT MODERATELY,not until stuffed it should be no problem,,veg tables,fruit but again do not over do it there should be no problem

Yes it is rude, but it's just part of nature . I do believe a simple excuse me is appropriate. However you too my friend will get to be older someday & I hope you remember how you feel about this now. As for the rest of your family farting like they are rock stars they need some etiquette classes, as far as you & your partner leaving the room to expell gas this to will pass after you get past the "honeymoon phase". Maybe you can provide beano to your guest ythe next time they visit.

Passing wind in front of anyone is not a part of polite but respect of other people. If u care for someone and u respect someone else u will never do it in front of them. Your mum is just a simple woman without any inteligency, sorry i said that but it is true

Your mom sounds like a gas......no pun intended.
I once went out on a blind date and we were sitting on this old weathered beaten down wood bench, and just out of no where he lifts up his leg and lets out the most hilarious fart that rippled through the bench.
I laugh about it now, but I was rather surprised about it then.
