I think tradition says one year...
Why are you waiting another 2 years??? You'll have been dating 7+ yrs by then!

My fiance and I have been engaged since August of 2006.
So, we're getting married 19 months after the proposal.
Typically, people wait about 1-2 years because weddings are expensive and can be stressful. Taking a longer amount of time helps financially and eases stress of doing things quickly.
Best of luck and congratulations!

Um, I think 2 years is the longest I would want to be engaged. Getting engaged means you are planning a wedding in my book.

I say an engagement should be at least 1 years, but no longer then 1.5 years.

Just as long as it takes to plan a wedding, not more than a year.
Why in the world would you need to wait LONGER already???

you can be engaged as long as you want to be! I became engaged on December 17th 2006 and it was starting to drive me batty but now it's only four months away and I wish i had more time. Make sure you plan as much as you can so your not stressed out! :)

I think that's a long time. Where I'm from, the average engagement is less than six months. My husband and I were engaged for about ten months. I would advise you to not wait that long, unless you are having doubts; in which case, you shouldn't be getting married.
