I was unable to go shopping and gave my adult son, my adult daughter and my teenage grandson, each fifty dollars cash money. My daughter left in on the piano, when she went home. This made me feel sad inside.

To answer tycorkc, she is 50, and I am 72, easier to give cash. And she emailed me and asked if I found the money laying on the piano.

Even though you couldn't get them a real present, it was still nice of you to get them something. And that is also sort of what you should tell them. You should just tell them the truth, say exactly what your situation was. On top of that, you should weave in that when it all boils down, it really is the thought that counts. That really is what is important, and these days in this material world, things like that can be forgotten. Apologize too, and that should set things straight. But you should also keep in mind that $50 is not a very nice gift, because it is not as personal as it should be. But oh well; maybe next year.

Did she deliberately leave it on the piano or perhaps forgot it on accident? I would ask her and if she really forgot it, let it slide. But if she responds ungraciously, calmly explain why you decided to give cash this year. Mention that you thought it would be appreciated as you thought everyone would appreciate having the freedom to purchase whatever they want, but if she doesn't want it that's too bad. What's more, you can tell her that your are disappointed that she behaved like a child when you raised her better than that.

Hello Anne2

My Answer would be. Obviously are 50 USD as a gift not worth of taking with. So I better keep it not to be blamed for a tooo small gift.

when I furnish a present day all i want is a thank you. that is it. i think of it form of is going against the full 'selfless act of kindness' factor in case you have expectancies approximately how they might desire to respond with enthusiasm and grateful kisses and such. It form of capacity that the present replaced into given for a particular purpose, to make the giver experience good, and the receiver experience grateful and appreciative. it is not precisely selfless. Theres my $.02 anyhow. thank you is passable. :)

Maybe your daughter forgot it, or didn't feel that you should be giving her cash (perhaps she thinks you can't afford it), maybe she was upset that you gave her cash. She probably didn't want to give it back because she knew you wouldn't take it. Why not just ask her why she left it rather than assuming she was being ungracious? It seems the logical way to respond.

Was it $50 cash, or was it something worth $50?

Did they thank you for the gift? If they thanked you and were polite about it, you should not be upset if it was returned. Maybe it was the wrong size or color. Maybe they already had one.
IF they were rude and ungracious when they opened it, you do nothing, but do not get them any other gifts. They don't appreciate it. When thank you's don't came, gifts stop.
Period. I just read that is was $50 cash. I am sorry your daughter is such a shrew. You does not realize that it might be difficult for her 72 year old mom to go shopping in the winter. She is very ungrateful...And then she tops it off by calling you to ask if you found the money. EWWWWWWWWWWWW.....I would not worry about it for one second....in this instance, she is not worth it. Have a wonderful new year!!

You should thank them. That's more money in your pocket. It's sad when you try to give someone a monetary gift and they refuse it. Put it towards something for yourself. Good Luck!
