How sad that someone would tell you that
1 John 4:8 tells us that God is love and 2 Pter 3:9 tells us that he "is not slow respecting his promise (of a new heaven and earth) because he desires all to attain to repentence" the King James Version says in this same scripture, "...but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish..." So if what this person told you were true, then that means the Bible is false and/or that God is a liar, since 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "all scripture is inspired of God..." What do you think?

Very sadly, there is a lot of misinformation out there, and misinformation seems to be pedalled by Christians and non-christians alike. God loves everyone and is not willing that any should perish:
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Anytime anyone claims to speak for God, they need to back up what they say with God's word. I'm NOT SAYING I have all the answers, but I know the Bible does:
2Pe 1:3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Hos 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
You will find God when you look for Him with all your heart:
Jer 29:13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart.
There is NO EVOLUTION OF RELIGION, unfortunately there is EVOLUTION OF MISINFORMATION.
May God Bless your search, I pray you find what you seek.

God/Jesus hates the sins that we commit, however he loves us with all of their heart. Parent/child - when a child is disobedient, we hate what they've done, but we still love them.
God is love and that's the bottom line. He loved us so much that He allowed His only begotten son to die for our sins and it was all because of His love for us, his children. Take care!

gonna make a point on the OT/NT difference.
I find it hilarious when people refer to the new testament version of God as merciful.
in the old testament God was clearly harsher during the current life, than the God of the new testament. this I agree with and have issue about.
but, look at the differences in how the two books portray the afterlife.
a Christian might tell you that they are the same. but this is not true. in the Old Testament, theres no concept of eternal hell at all!
in the old testament/Jewish Belief everyone has a place in the world to come, and God is eager to forgive, if only we repent our wrongdoings and learn from them, and strive to do better.

The Christian who told you that doesn't know any more than any other Christian does about it. So just ignore it. Make up your own mind after doing your own research.

That's scary. He must be a false convert. It's like a cop whose gone bad and when caught severe punishment...(Heb. 9:27, Rev. 21:8)

Wow...a Christian actually read the Bible. That's hard to believe.
But he is right in that it is what the Bible says. It is quite a horrible little faerie tale.

People say that about God because they don't listen to or like what Jesus said about loving our neighbors. These people are fooling themselves because they are not Christians at all.
A long time ago I thought that love was something that you reserved for some special set of people that you had judged worthy of it.
After a while I got to thinking about what Jesus had said about turning the other cheek and loving our neighbor I put the two together and realized that he had made no exceptions in these statements. It became obvious to me that he intended that we exclude no one from the love that we are supposed to be giving. I started thinking about my idea of love and suddenly realized that I had not been loving anyone at all. I had simply been judging everyone and every thing.
Judging someone worthy of love is not love, it is only judgment. I actually started to cry when I realized this. I saw just how much of my life I had wasted being judgmental, thinking of myself as a Christian, when I was actually doing just the opposite of what Jesus had asked us to do.
I thought about the verse judge not lest ye be judged, and I understood it for the first time.
I realized that I have a lot of catching up to do. So many opportunities were wasted. I now try to apply the love that I have for the world in a universal way like Jesus asks us to do.
If I start to feel afraid and think that I see someone that I should not love because of something I have thought or heard I try to catch my mistake as soon as possible. I tell myself that I have forgot the truth and have fallen for the same old trick that had cost me so many opportunities to be loving in the past. The horror of this realization is often all that is necessary to bring me back to my senses and make me drop the judgmental nonsense I was thinking.
I still have a lot to learn about love, but at least I’m making progress.
Love and blessings
Your brother

Don't listen to a Christian but listen to Christ The Pharisees were mad with Christ for who did he eat and talk with? God Loves all his Children watch for those that claim to be his. How many people were killed in the name of Jesus. If you've read Jesus words in scripture were did he say to do that. In fact he tell us to pray for those that despise us, for they hated him first and he still loved them after all they did.
