I think it may satisfy some of the instincts bred in them such as fighting over food with another dog playing tug of war to get a big piece of food. I don't think that is what they use it for now its just fun for them but that may be where its from.

i read somewhere that tug-of-war makes them aggressive? but im not sure if its true

Even my spaniels loved it inthier younder days. Our 11 month old loves it.

It is in the dog nature that they love it.....can't be explained.....born with it. It's just like all cats are obsessed with chasing mice or attacking things that move.
