Atheists:
Do you watch lots of T.V., read tabloids, and have a great interest in celebrities and/or celebrity gossip?
I am interested if there is any connection to religious worship.
Whether athiests might be free of some gentic predisposition of the need to worship.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Hmm...seems to be a pattern.
I too, have no interest in celebrities and though I like t.v., it's either sports or Discovery, TLC, or The History Channel

I don't watch a lot of TV. When I do, it's either a good movie or Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Court TV that kind of thing. I read a lot, far more than I watch television, and I am very choosy about what I read (just as I am choosy about everything...food, clothing...everything). I appreciate quality in all things that I experience, and most television is just intellectual junk food. We have the cable and Internet cut off for about six months of the year - spring and summer - so the family can pursue other interests full-time.
I don't read tabloids and have no interest in celebrities or celebrity gossip either, it's just more garbage. Garbage in, garbage out...got to watch what kind of input the brain is getting.
Whoa, look at these answers. That's very interesting. This was a great question!

I hate stupid vision and tabloids in fact I point out to people the "headlines " on them with scorn and if I happen to see someone buying one in the store will tell them not to use it as a liner for the birdcage as they might be charged with cruelty to animals .Celebrities and gossip disinterest me as I consider them shallow as well as stupid in most cases outside of their chosen field { and sometimes inside as well } ! All people except the hopelessly retarded are free of any genetic need for worship many are just conditionally trained to a certain pattern or lifestyle . Once this pattern is broken they to become non-believers . I also read alot of books mostly sci-fi , alt-uni , history ancient and modern , philosophy , real science and several other subjects depending on my mood . I read rather quickly with good comprehension and don't need much sleep .

Interesting question... I never really thought about things along those lines. Okay, I'll bite! Atheist here.
I really don't follow celebrity gossip at all. I know who I like as actors/actresses... but I only follow them around as far as desciding on what movies I might enjoy watching. I don't know--nor do I care--who is dating whom, who is married to whom, or who has had children with whom. I couldn't tell you if any of my favorite actors are drug addicts. I really don't *want* to know; everyone has their problems... but I'm nobody's shrink. Plus, it doesn't affect my enjoyment of their acting roles one way or the other--so why bother knowing?
Sure, some celebrities tend to be force-fed to the general public: Political stances, public temper-tantrums, or that annoying "jump on Oprah's couch" Tom Cruise crap. That stuff is hard to NOT hear about! But to willingly follow it and be currious about it? Nah. Not me.

I read tabloid headlines in the checkout line.. (I like to stay informed LOL)... When my oldest daughter and I go to the store she reads me the headlines we have a great time laughing at the latest end of the world predictions and what is britney doing this week LOL
I watch the news 1-2 times a day (usually in the morning after getting the kids off I take a quite 1/2 hour with my coffee and the news... if something in the morning report strikes me as something I want to see more about I watch the 11 pm news to see if the stories developed over the day) I was the Discovery Channel, Discovery Kids (with my 10 yr old) and I am an avid History Channel Junky....

I never read tabloids. Made-up news and gossip do not interest me. That's also why I avoid Fox News and any entertainment-news shows.
When I watch TV, I watch BBC World News, MSNBC, History, Discovery, and the occasional movie on a premium channel or pay-per-view.
I do not worship celebrities. Most are too overwhelmingly stupid to demand much respect. I would mention names, but that would take too long.
Happy New Year.
*Edit* Though I must admit there is a disturbing trend among the history and science channels, trying to "prove" the biblical fairy tales. I believe they are wasting their -- and our -- time, attempting to appease the religionists.

I watch the History Chanel, Discovery, and the Science Channel and that's about it. I hardly ever really watch them either. I usually have it on for background noise unless something sounds interesting.
I never read tabloids and I could care less about which member of the Spears family is pregnant this week. Well, as long as I ain't the daddy.
