Aren't you asking a little late? Anyways down the road hopefully you will look back and fill with pride knowing you served your country.
I left my son to serve a year in Iraq and I don't regret it. One day the world may be a better place for the small part I played.

I dont believe u are even in the army just want attention. I dont think a soldier would ask a dumb question like this. If you are a soldier then lose your weak minded tendancies and man up

all of your questions about whether this war is pointless or not will disappear the first time a car blows up or a bullet zings by your head...just be agressive, remember your training, and count on your buddies and you'll do fine

I think the real question is, are you still a child, who expected that you could join up for the honor of saying you served, and the G.I.Bill after, without having to take any chances or do any real service.....or are you a man, who thought it through before you signed on the dotted line?
I think you should also define "popular war"....there is not now, nor ever has been, a popular war, certainly not with those who manned up and went. Popularity is not an issue. We were attacked, and we are trying to make sure that it does not happen again. If you can't get your mind around that, you don't belong in the Army.....it's for men and women who can make decisions based on the freedom they swore to uphold.

There are a lot of guys that have second thoughts when their about to go to war. Have faith in yourself and in your country and in your fellow soldier's. Most importantly have faith in God. We are all praying for the American Soldiers. It's never pointless to fight for freedom and against terrorism. This country has won several wars that folks said were pointless. That's why we are the greatest nation in the world. Bar none. Good Luck to you and God Bless the American Soldier.

I haven't been to Iraq or Afghanistan, but I did go to Kyrgyzstan right after 9/11..the first team on the ground in an unknown area. From my experiences and from talking to friends of mine that just came back from Iraq, when you're there, you don't think about the politics. You will see the good you are doing. Contrary to what you hear in the media...most of the locals are glad we're there for the sort-of short term (not permanently at least). Keep your head in the game and concentrate on your job! Most of the injuries/deaths in the suck come from people getting complacent with their surroundings. They stop paying attention and start goofing around. I know it's hard keeping it up for months on end, but you have to not let anyone tell you not to keep your guard up and that "it's ok, we've done this a million times". It takes just one person screwing around to mess the whole thing up.
Good luck, stay safe!!! (and yes, you did make the right choice)

Do not let fears get into your head now. You have been trained to do a job. It is not a wrong choice to serve your country but lots of soldiers change their mind once they see what is going on in the world. I enlisted during war time and I thought no one supported my choice. You have to understand that people can be against the war and for the soldiers 100%. The quickest way to get killed is to be distracted and not pay attention to the details right around you. Stay completely alert any way that you can and if you sense something act on it. Yes you are a team but you are ultimately responsible for your own safety. Talk to the soldiers there and ask what they have learned about the people who live in that country. Find out as much as you can. Start tonight and get on some sites and read the info. Pointless reasons for war or not, you need info. to feel confident that you can survive. I wish I was there to have a pep talk and calm everyone down. But I promised some couples that I would babysit these kids. One Mom is an Air Force Commander in training so really I would send her to you to help get ready. She just got out of the school so she is updated on everything. You can make it. We will be saying our prayers for you tonight and every night. {{{HUG}}} from whrldpz
