You can play a Blu-Ray to a regular TV, but it won't look any better than a regular DVD. The TV is just not capable of showing anything above that.

So to "experience" Blu-Ray, you really do need an HDTV. You'd need a 1080p TV to get the maximum experience.

No, you can connect a Blu-Ray player to any TV but it won't be the full resolution (1080p) Blu-Ray is capable of. If your TV has component video you will be limited to 480i and less with S-video or composite video. They are not called blu-ray DVDs as they have no association to the DVD organization but we understand. More appropriate would be Blu-Ray Disc or BD.

to make it worth it, you need a 1080p tv

i don't know if 120Hz makes a difference
