I just got my braces off for the second time. First when I was 15 and wore my retainer for a while then stopped. Then when I was 36 I got them again. The dentist says the retainer is just that...to retain what is already in order, not to correct. I wear my retainer every night now because I don't want to do this again.

After your braces come off you get a retainer. This keeps your teeth from relapsing, going crocked again. You will have to start over with braces, again.

No, retainers are only for keeping your teeth in place. they are not strong enough to move anything.
Braces however stick to your teeth firmly and are held by wires. Straight wires will move the teeth according to its straight shape .
