It's difficult to erase images from brain.

I've been a nurse for over 30 years. I have seen that sort of disfigurement, and worse.
You're right, some of it is hard to forget. There are images in my head you wouldn't believe.
There is no easy way to get over it. Sometimes we never do. If nothing else, it teaches you compassion and empathy. It also gives you the opportunity to realize how lucky you are, and to never take your life or health for granted.
If that person you saw was out and walking around, he went through a lot of suffering to get where he is, and he deserves your admiration for having the intestinal fortitude to be out in public. A lot of people would isolate themselves.
I hope you can come to understand there is a lot of pain in the world, but those who are in that pain deserve your support and compassion, not pity.
Happy New Year.

I don't think I would say "hideously" but I do know some people that are disfigured because of fires. One is my father in law, when he was younger he was in a disel mechanic fire and their was an accident in the repair garage which got him bad on his arms. As far as 'difigured' goes however, when ever I think I have had it rough, or things are not going well I think of one of my customers who's mother was given "Thilidemide" when she was preagnant with him. He has two fingers for hands on both sides, arms that are maybe 1 foot long, cannot hear, cannot speak and it unusually shaped in his upper torso. All of my problems seem to fade away. BY the way, he is one of my best customers and is very well off. He overcame his troubles which have been with him all his life. Of course he cannot do sign language with two fingers as hands. I certainly do not erase his image from my brain, BUT RATHER LEAN ON THEM FOR SUPPORT. I have had it easy compared to many people in this world. Good people.

It took a while to think of an answer for you... but here goes from the heart..... I have seen burn victims and it is hard to witness. But I think that the hardest part is facing our own fear. Just realize that people are people and we all have feelings. Whether we're beautiful or disfigured, everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.

I remember a woman in particular from 30 or more years ago. I will never forget her. I was thinking of her the other day and it almost brought tears to my eyes still.

Yes, in high school they showed us a video with a girl who'd been burned in a drunk driving collision. The video was very effective, I don't think any of us who saw it will ever take the risk of driving drunk, that's not the kind of image you forget. It was worse because they showed a picture of how she looked before, she was so beautiful.

how horribly sad.
one image that haunts me: a little animal having its fur ripped off it while it is still alive, then thrown aside to suffer and die a horrible death.
I got tears in my eyes now.

I don't consider them 'hideous'.
That would be very inconsiderate of me.
Not to mention UNkind and DISrespectful.

Yes. I worked in a hospital with a major burn unit. Of all the horrible things that can happen to you burns are the most traumatic. I saw people with their hands basically burned off. Disfigured faces. I can't imaging how difficult it would be to go though this.
