That is not likely, but the ultimate decision would be with your supervisor.

They normally separate relatives, there is too much possibility of a distraction, especially with a critical incident.

I work with two brothers, they were not allowed to work together until they were both here several years.

It is unlikely that you and your brother will be in the same squad unless it is a very small department.
It would be too distracting for the two of you if the other one was involved in a dangerous situation.
Also, your actions at the scene might be called into question if you responded to a call that your brother was on, and a use of force was required.

AND WHY NOT? UNLESS DEPARTMENT HAS A POLICY?
WE HAD ONE BUT DUE TO SHORTAGES OF HIRING AND THOSE WANTING TO WORK CORRECTIONS WE ALLOW RELATIVES, BROTHERS AND BROTHERS TO WORK TOGETHER. I MEAN IT IS LIKE TRYING TO GET AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF BLACKS AND WHITES IN A DORM? IMPOSSIBLE WHEN THERE IS A 66 / 34 RATIO?
MILITARY HAD A LAW ABOUT THAT CALLED THE SULLIVAN LAW BECAUSE IN PEARL HARBOR 5 OF 7 BROTHERS WERE KILLED SO MILITARY INVOKED A LAW SAYING BROTHERS CANNOT SERVE TOGETHER.
MILITARY ALSO HAS A LAW ABOUT SOLE SURVIVING SON YOU CANNOT BE DRAFTED?

I'm sure it varies from department to department...but I know many don't allow relatives to be on the same shift. If one of you got hurt, the other wouldn't be 100% focused on the investigation or if the situation demands, something completely unrelated.

Best to ask the department.

You'll have to look up the specifics on the department you want to be in. For instance, my department, the NC Highway Patrol, will not allow a man and wife to be in the same troop where one has direct command over the other, but as far as I can tell there are no limitations on siblings. Rest assured you can be a cop with the same department, as to whether or not you'll be able to be in the same squad or not I couldn't tell you without knowing which department you are speaking of. Where are you applying?
