I don't know about how long it takes for a body to get cold, but I do know that when there is an estimate of the time of death it can be wrong. A friend died in my room in his sleep and I heard him snoring when I woke up early in the morning. I was just letting him sleep in and later on in the morning we found him cold. They told me that he died around midnight that night but I know that was wrong because I heard him snoring in the morning.

I am really sorry. I am surviving the same situation with a person i love more then anything, more then myself and i want to be there instead of him. Please do not kill yourself with such questions. It is hard to survive and hard to believe and so many questions coming to you mind. I am still looking the answer but it is no answer. Do whatever you can. If you want to cry, then cry. Just remember, your mom will always around and she will take care of you from a different world. I believe, one day we will together again with my loved person. If death coming, the body can be warm for a wile, but after 15 min - brain is totally dead and no possibility to return it back. Take care yourself and try to be around people. SORRY
(please, do not give me any points for the answer, i do not want to be best answer person, i just want to help you to survive this, as some others helping me now.) Take care

I'm sorry to hear about your death in the family.

I think you should discuss it with the doctors, and might be just an error on the certificate, otherwise maybe her heart or other organs stoped around 10:30am not at 8am.

May the lord bless all your family and give you everything you wish for this 2008

Your logic doesn't follow. You're saying:

(a) your dad found her at 8 a.m. on the 23rd
(b) but the coroner said she died at 10:30 (the same day??)
(c) are you saying she was warm when you got there or did your dad tell you that she was warm when he got there?
(d) how much time passed between your dad and your arriving on the scene?

Well, I do not know the exact timing or anything, but I do know they start cooling pretty quickly. I actually see a lot of people die in my line of work and then I have to prepare them for the funeral home to take, so I clean them up. Even after only a couple hours they are significantly cooler than a live person, although still warm. This is a touchy subject ,since it was your mother, and I am sure you are looking for answers. I'm sorry I can't give you specifics, but I will do some research and edit this if I find any.

EDIT:
Okay, after some quick investigation...it really varies. You did give the temp of the room, but the decline of temperature also depends on so many other things, such as the weight of the body, temperature before death, and where the body was. The coroner may be wrong, but ultimately it will be up to the investigators to figure this out. So sorry for your loss, I lost my mother to and "undetermined" death in 2006...the police say they think it was a suicide, but no one will ever know for sure. :(

I think that as it goes a rule of thumb is a one degree drop per hour in body temp

well my bro died at 5:30 am in the morning..by the time coroner came it was around 7:00 am..He had started to go cold already..Oh god i will never forget his skin,it just felt so-well alive..but i doubt with the time period your mum was gone i believe she should have been cold..it all depends on how hot or cold the environment around her was..
