For many departments the days of the "regular" partner are gone. Shifts vary and rotate and many times you are working solo with back up just a radio call away. There could be times where you and your brother end up working together and there will be times when you are alone. That is not a bad thing, you want to make your own name in the department, not just be known as half of the brother team (especially of your brother is a screw up, not saying he is)

You will have no problem being hired on in most departments. The likelihood of having a partner is way slim,as those days are over. Too many municipalities with solo patrols. You could work the same shifts, and would be working together alot. I however, would enjoy not seeing my coworkers, Brother or not. That is the sign of a peaceful shift.

No, one reason being if you had a death in your family both of you would have to be off on the same day. Every time something happens to one the other is affected by it.

I would say that it's highly unlikely that brothers would be allowed to partner. The familial relationship makes dangerous situations more difficult (you might have a hard time making good decisions when it's a brother with you); and, in the unlikely case that you would enter into something really bad together, they don't want one family to sustain the loss of two members.
