Fellow Christians,

My 8 year old son found out Santa is fake from a classmate. He cried for a bit but he eventually came to terms with it...but now, when we're in church, and he hears something illogical, he doesn't beleive in it either.

I'm trying to convince him that flying sleds are fake, but talking snakes are real. Reindeer with magical glowing noses are fake, but people splitting seas with their hands, is real. A big jolly guy jumping through chimneys all around the world in one night is fake, but another guy feeding a huge group of people with two fish is real. A 6 foot rabbit jumping around our living room leaving candy is fake, but magical angels with horns flying in from the clouds is real. A 6 inch fairy that spinkles glitter under his pillow leaving dollars is fake, but this other guy shoved 2 of every earthly creature on a boat while all earth, is real. It's confusing the youngster. Why can't he separate the logical sensible Bible stuff from the silly myths?

I for one I'm glad that your son wants nothing to do with the church. I hope he does believe in God, Christ, Jesus and everything, but don't drag him in that world of yours where they're all a bunch of haters, judges, and hypocrites.

I am amazed how many people missed your quite obvious sarcasm. Then again, I'm surprised at how many people believe those ridiculous ancient myths.

Excellent Post!

It's good that your son is questioning things, that's a sign of intelligence...
Maybe you could learn a little something from him and start questioning some of your own beliefs of what is real and what is fake...
logical and illogical...
truth and religious dogma. :-)

He can't seperate them because he is only 8 years old and he just found out that the icon that he believed in for 8 years is not real.

Just lay off him for awhile and don't pressure him into believing it. Just keep teaching him, keep sending him to Sunday school, and let him question it. If he doesn't question it, how can his faith grow?

U could tell him that because of all of the creative things that God did in the bible many people have attempted to make-up stories to top what God has done. U can tell him that Santa & the Tooth Fairy (etc.) are attempts of the world to imitate the wonderful and creative things that God did. Maybe this will help him. U could also have him listen to the song "Here Comes Santa Claus" because in that song even though they are talking about Santa, they give reverance to God...if this won't confuse him.

Oh, you're just aching to start a religious battle, aren't you!
Good luck......and tell your son Santa is real but I'm keeping him here because I like his package!

Perhaps the boy needs some discipline! "Spare the rod" and all that...I'll bet that with a little firm guidance, you could get the message through his head in not time.

He was so used to believing in santa that he can't grasp other myths. He knows you're his parent, so it should be easier to handle from you. It might take awhile, but eventually I bet he'll come to terms with you and start believing the Bible. Read him things directly from the bible and let him see them, so he knows you aren't making it up.
