Powdered sugar is granulated sugar processed very finely with cornstarch added for smoothness. The higher the number on the bag ex: 6X, 8X, 10X indicates the number of times it was processed. The higher the number, the finer the sugar.

The powdered sugar they use to coat donuts with is different from the kind you buy in the grocery store. Ever notice the cool feeling on your lips you get when you bite into a powdered donut? That is the dextrose added to that sugar, it doesn't melt as easily as regular powdered sugar, therefore works best on the hot donuts.

In a pinch, you can substitute powdered sugar for granulated sugar (use 1 3/4 cups powdered sugar for 1 cup sugar) and you can also put granulated sugar in a blender and pulverize it into powdered sugar.

No, granulated sugar is the stuff in sugar bowls. Powdered sugar is just another name for confectioners sugar, the fluffy white stuff that is on powdered donuts. You can buy it in the grocery store in plastic bags. It's usually found in the same isle in the store as regular sugar.

No, granulated sugar is like regular sugar, powdered (or confectioners sugar) is the white powdery sugar you would use on french toast or use to make an icing for a cake.

No. Granulated is little grains of sugar... like what you get in a sugar packet at a restaurant. It looks like table salt.

Powdered (or confectioner's) sugar has been ground up very fine and had a bit of cornstarch added to it to keep it from clumping.
