In new studies and surveys, it has been shown that a majority of parents would rather have their offspring's significant other be anything but atheist. Also, there has been surveys and studies that have shown that people are most uncomfortable around atheists than other religions.

I wanted to know what you think, even though many connections are made between evil and other bad things as atheism (communism, etc.), atheist majority countries such as Finland have some of the lowest crime rates, highest literacy rates, etc. that puts them above other religious influenced governments. Please, I would like to know your opinion on this subject.

Because people who need a religion to tell them how to behave, think and feel are acared of people who choose to be a free thinker, to face life as it is and to take the challenges with the mind and the eyes opened.
The religious people can't understand how you can accept any loss or problem in your life, overcome depression and other things "whitouth" God. They can't understand that you love this life, love this planet, love Nature and fight for a better life and awareness for everybody...and all that without "God".
Most of them were told, since they were young children, that being without god is bad, that it may mean living without limits and morals, that a person who does not love and accept god, may be soul-empty.
That's why they are so affraid of us.

Because in this country, people are raised and encouraged to hate and fear atheists.
That's really all there is to it.

In my own personal experience people feel uncomfortable around me because they really don't know what atheism is. I often get told that I'm a devil worshipper, gay, I have no morals or beliefs, a sinner, satan is using me to trick christians into atheism....the list goes on but I'm sure you get the point. I've met a few people who had such misconceptions and they treated me weird and I had no idea why until I was able to pry it out of them later.

Probably the only reason that studies show that people are less comfortable around atheists than other religions is because they haven't done studies regarding Pagans. I think I get AT LEAST as much crap from Christians as atheists do.

Because people are uneducated and easily manipulated to believe what they are told by here say. Their parents raised them to believe that the Christian beliefs are holy. Obviously someone who isn't religious would make it seem to these people that we are some type of monsters with no moral value.
