There is no mention of a god in our Founding Document, The Constitution. The words "under god" were added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, the original motto was "e Pluribus Unum" (one out of many) until changed to "in god we trust" in 1956 under that same Red Scare - McCarthyism crap that essentially ruined our great nation.

Separation of Church and State needs to be reinforced.

If the US was a christian nation it would recognize and promote the Kingdom of God. 1John says that we know we originate with God, but the world lies in the power of the wicked one. Who is the wicked one? Satan. Also, if the US was christian then there would be no need for war involvement or a pledge of allegiance. The Flag is cloth just as the pagan gods of old were wood, metal or gold. Inanimate objects that are powerless and useless. God is real and his son Jesus is our salvation. In God We Trust? I hope so. Psalms 146:3 states, "Do not put your trust in Nobles or in the son of earthling man to whom no salvation belongs." To be christian means to be followers of Christ, or Christ like. Jesus's Kingdom is not of this world. Refer back to 1John 5:19. His Kingdom is coming to rule over this earth as it is now ruling in Heaven as Jesus enthroned as King.

The US is not Christian, nor anything else. The references to god arose during the cold war, when Congress, in its infinite lack of wisdom, decided that more distinction between US and USSR practices was necessary. The Supreme Court has been asked to rule on the appropriateness of all this, but so far they have punted.

It never was, until then, a Christian nation. People ignore the founding fathers, who authored a treaty with Tripoli that stated explicitly, that this WAS NOT a Christian nation.

Oh absolutely.

The Pledge of Allegiance as originally written made no reference to a sky daddy. It was added during the McCarthy era of the 50's.

In fact, the whole time I was in grade school, we didn't use that form of the Pledge. That was in the 60's. The pledge I grew up with just went.... "One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
