Hi there...you would need to contact you local Humane Society, which can be done anonymously to learn what is the legal limit allowed in your community as it varies from region to region. Anything more than the legal limit requires permits as a breeder or kennel keeper.

Where I live people are only allowed to have :
3 cats
or
3 dogs
or
1 dog and 2 cats
or
2 dogs and 1 cat
3 animals are what people are only allowed to have.
It is 1 or the other.

Just thought youd find it interesting!
Where i live there is no limit. But if you can provide for 18 cats, neuter and spay them all and afford all necessary vet bills then I think your doing nothing wrong.
But if your like a certain individual that I know that has many cats, didnt neuter any of them, They actually ran over 3 of there own cats accidentely (i think)
They got a pup, realised it wasnt lassie (it chewed, whined, required walks (not just open the front door), and it did general puppy things such as poop and pee everywhere, the kids got bored of it and the dog mysteryisly went missing one day!
So if youre not like this ''friend of mine'' and actually look after your pets then I dont think your doing anything wrong.

Your city has ordinances on the books for multiple pets--usually it's five adult animals, any more and you need a kennel license, a breeders license, or an agreement with the city that you're a foster pet owner.
But the city usually doesn't care unless there are heavy smells, a neighbor complains, or something happens that isn't good (dog bites, animals killed or put into the trash, etc.).
