Hello everyone and happy new year! Usually, when I hold my 9 month yorkie by his scruff to bath him i feel the little microchip. Now I can't feel it at all. I tried looking for it to see if maybe it slipped somewhere on his back or the front of his neck but nothing. Should I be worried? Does he need to get it removed and will he still be able to be identified if he gets lost? Thanks!!

some microchips migrate unfortunately. The Avid ones migrate quite a bit, but I've had good luck with the Trovan chip staying put.

As long as it's not causing him discomfort, I wouldn't worry about it. When you get him neutered, the vet can scan for his chip, and re-place it during the surgery.

To make you feel better, when a lost dog is found, the shelters/vets, etc, scan the whole body, not just the shoulder.

No, Don't worry, maybe it came off, vacuum the carpet and look in the container to see if it is there, next who ever is tracking him microchip get a new one to make you feel happy. Dogs scratch a lot and he could of dislodge it. By the way you lovely two, Happy new year.

How long has the chip been in place? Because the hole from the injection heals in a day or so, so he'd have quite a scab if he managed to get the chip out. You can't feel them on most animals. Have him scanned whenever you can (at a vet, shelter, lots of places have scanners) but I'd be very surprised if it's gone. The scanner will still pick it up, even if it's moved a little. So just have him scanned for your peace of mind, but I bet everything is fine. He's just growing up- more muscle, thicker skin...I've been able to feel them on very young animals when they're first placed, but I can't think of an adult animal I've managed to feel one on.

It is very uncommon to be able to feel a mircochip if it was implanted properly. The only way to detect a mircochip is with a scanner. If you are concerned just take him to your vet and have him scanned. If for some reason it isn't working you wouldn't remove it you would just implant a new one.

I can't feel the mico-chip in any of my dogs.

If you are worried - have your vet scan him and see if they get a reading.

Well let's see...since the chip was embedded under the dogs skin...I don't think it went too far..... technically you can't feel the micro chip!
