pls if you are not a christian, feel free to NOT answer
Deuteronomy 5:21- Neither shall you covet your neighbour’s wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbour’s house, or field, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.
Exodus 20:17-You shall not covet your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.
here's my question: i am looking at my neighbors house, and i am like 'i wish our house looks like that. look at the grass, its so green'(but you have no intention to steal or kill anything/anyone)
OR you look at a family that has everything going well for them, and you are like 'i wish my family was like that'(but you have no intention to steal or kill anything/anyone)
have you/i broken the 10th commandment?

No you have not broken the tenth commandment. When I was very small, my best friends had a balloon. I wanted that balloon so bad, I literally forcibly took it away from her.My mom ,after she punished me. Sat me down and told that what I had did was called to covet. and I was never to do that again, She told me, it was fine, if I wanted one like she had even of the same color. But, that I had to earn it, so it would be mine. That lesson, has stuck with me through all my life. Now, if my best friend get a new dress and I really like it,then I know ,that I am not to want hers, but, that I can have one like it when, I have the funds. to buy it. It also learned me not to be jealous of the good fortune of others. it gave me in stead the incentive to work harder,to have the things I liked.

Yup, relating to the dimensions of it from the previous testomony in a Christian Bible. whether a Christian with the help of religion, i'm no longer a brilliant beleiver in some bloke construction a ship to homestead each species of critter the two. Oh, am I banished because of the fact I covet my neighbours oxen ? Moses became probably a great chap, so upon preferable his followers out of slavery, theory a series of policies could be a physically powerful theory. very such as Gordon Brown. Er, Jesus hadn't arrived on the scene to place Moses ideas-blowing. Bob

You must never be envious of what another has... If you are angry and jealous, then yes, you broke it. [It depends on the condition of your heart - only Jesus and you know what that is] Even if they are outwardly evil, and seem to have endless blessings, never be angry. It is OK to have dreams like - "I'd like to live in a house like that one day," or "what a great wife she is,"etc. Remember, most things aren't always what they appear to be. The grass is always greenest where it is watered and loved. Many blessings.

Emperor you are truly one of a kind, so young and so concerned and wise. No, you are not coveting anything in your heart, are you not just admiring other peoples blessings? I love our neighbors now drive-way it has beautiful stones all over it, I even announced to her I loved it so much I was going to park there later that day. She said thanks and smiled at me. Now if you want to go over there and pull out their sod and re-plant it in your yard, then we have an issue to be concerned over, but you are completely and absolutely normal, I admire your diligence!!!
Happy Blessed New Year Friend!!! May you be richly blessed.

We have all broken the 10th commandment, now have you this time, it all depends what is going on in your heart, its okay to use some one elses success to motivate us as long we keep it under control, but if you treat them any different in any way then you have sinned in your heart against them. The old devil can flash things in our minds and there is not a whole we can do about it, its only when we dwell on it that it becomes a sin unto us. Its a very fine line and that is why we should thank Jesus everyday for coming and dieing on a cross for us. Praise the Lord!!!

No way. You call that ambition in the works and if you work hard and invest in the right areas, you can get there.

My opinion: If you want your neighbor's wife, you have coveted. If you think your neighbor has a very kind, beautiful wife, and you hope that someday you, too, will have a kind, beautiful wife, you have not coveted.
I think a good way to understand this is to think about what the feeling might cause you to do. If because you want your neighbor's car or wife, you steal his car or commit adultery with his wife, then you have definitely coveted. If because you think your neighbor has a nice wife and nice car, you decide, "I'd like to get more education, so I can get a better job and maybe get a nicer car" or "I think I'll go to the singles program at my church so I can meet a nice, beautiful woman to marry", you have not coveted.
Or, to use your example: It is the difference in feeling between wanting the exact lawn your neighbor has, and not being satisified with your own --- coveting --- and decided that your lawn would look better if you mowed it and weeded it because you were inspired by how nice your neighbor's is --- not coveting.
Does that make it more clear?
God bless. :)
