I've had field peas(black eyed peas) soaking in salt water since lunch today, tomorrow they'll be ready to cook and eat! It's supposed to be good luck and good fortune to eat black eyed peas on New years day.

Grains (peas) are supposed to bring you good luck and success in the new year. Eat them on New Year's Day for sure but you can start from tonight if you like.

you eat them on news years DAY. going into new years...have something green (money) in your pocket as it symbolizes wealth thru the year, then on new years day you eat greens and blackeye peas, greens for wealth and blackeye peas for luck. dont ask me why but it has been a tradition in my family since i was a small child and now i am a grandma and the first thing i said to my son when he left for work and said 'see you next year' was 'got green?' automatic reaction even, and he said 'in BOTH pockets. haha so try it see if it works for you.
