I treat my cats with a monthly flea treatment every month, but it is very costly...does anybody know how to get them at a discount? (Revolution) I have 18 cats.

I live in Florida, we never have a hard frost it's 80 degrees now A/C is on.
All the cats are indoor but because it is Florida they will come in on us from the neighbors pets. I have no carpets all ceramic tile.

I've used Advantage on ours, and at the height of the flea season it took 6 weeks, not four, before the meds were so low that a flea showed up again. So if you wait another two weeks, you'll be extending your useage.

Do you really need to treat after winter starts? Most fleas are dead at that point or in hibernation if you're in an area that gets at least a hard frost.

The easiest thing to do is treat the cats and your house and then keep the cats inside. I'm assuming that your cats go out and that is where they are picking up the fleas. You can try dusting your cats with diatomaceous earth. This can be purchased at most any nursery/gardening store. You can also sprinkle borax on your carpets and upholstery. Borax can be found in the laundry section at the grocery store. Leave the borax in the carpet and cat bedding for at least a week and then vacuum thoroughly. Both of these are fairly inexpensive and natural alternatives to expensive chemical treatment. How does it work? The flea is an insect with an exoskeleton. At the microscopic level the borax and diatomaceous earth have very sharp edges that cut through the flea's outer hard shell. This is what eventually kills them. Just remember that the borax is for the carpet...do not sprinkle borax on the cats. Good luck!

Hi Pat...have you considered purchasing this through 1-800 Pet Meds or Drs. Foster & Smith? It may not be a whole lot less, but at least both are reputable retailers unlike uknown distributors who manufacture fake (dangerous) flea control products.

There are lots discount pet supply/med sites that offer deep discounts. A quick Google will give you lots to choose from. Just one word of caution, be clear where the med is made. I had gotten some flea meds for my cats that were made in Australia for Australian requirements, and I didn't find them as effective as those from Germany or the US.
